On behalf of KJ Byggadministration, which has a framework agreement with the City of Stockholm, EKA has had the privilege of providing technical support and coordination in an important development project at Hjorthagens IP in Stockholm.
The project includes replacing the artificial turf on the existing field, as well as installing pitch heating – an important investment in both operation and playing quality at this well-used sports facility.

A vibrant hub for children’s and youth sports
Hjorthagens IP is home to Djurgårdens IF’s youth teams, with matches and training sessions taking place seven days a week, from morning to evening. The new artificial turf and heated field will help extend the playing season and provide better conditions all year round.
From initial site visit to construction kickoff
The first site visit took place in June 2024. Over the following year, the tender documentation was developed in close dialogue with the parties involved and was published in summer 2025. The project is now in the construction phase.
Reliable project management and strong collaboration
Oscar Cabrera from KJ Byggadministration is leading the project with a clear structure and strong commitment, which has played an important role in moving the project forward.
EKA has provided support related to the pitch heating function and external water and wastewater systems and has taken part in ongoing design meetings.
A strong team with broad expertise
Every other week, the project team has met for progress updates. We would like to highlight the professional and solution-oriented collaboration with representatives from:
Structor
INTEC
Land Arkitektur
Enviri
Cobrandrisk
Helenius
Ahlsén Arkitekterna
Norconsult
Thank you to everyone involved for your expertise, energy, and positive spirit throughout the process.
Why install pitch heating under a football field?
Field heating, or ground heating, keeps the football field playable even during the colder months. Without heating, the ground can become rock hard or covered in ice and snow, making play more difficult and increasing the risk of injury. With field heating, training sessions and matches can take place all year round. For many municipalities, this is a more cost-effective alternative to indoor arenas or temporary covered halls, especially when available space and playing times are limited.
A boost for the future of sport
With a new field heating system and new artificial turf, Hjorthagens IP is now better equipped to meet future needs. For Djurgården’s youth teams, and for everyone who uses the field, this will bring a noticeable improvement in both functionality and accessibility.
At EKA, we are proud to contribute our expertise to the development of Stockholm’s sports facilities, where every detail matters.
