Article 6: EKA at Swedish Big Science Forum 2026 in Lund

EKA participated in the Swedish Big Science Forum 2026 in Lund, where Big Science Sweden brought together nearly 240 participants from industry, universities, research institutes, and major European research facilities for two intensive days of meetings, seminars, and knowledge exchange.

The forum was held at The Loop in Lund, located between ESS and MAX IV, and featured technical seminars, company pitches, one-on-one meetings, and networking opportunities.


EKA was represented at the event by Jörgen Rogstam, who was also among the companies presenting their key competencies during the forum.

According to Big Science Sweden, the forum was fully booked and brought together representatives from organizations including CERN, ESS, European XFEL, FAIR/GSI, Fusion for Energy, EISCAT, and European Solar Telescope.

In his presentation, Jörgen introduced EKA’s services and specialist expertise in sustainable energy systems and refrigeration solutions for advanced facilities. The focus was on natural refrigerants, energy efficiency, and solutions tailored for environments with exceptionally high requirements for precision, safety, and reliability.

EKA's services include:

  • Feasibility studies and feasibility assessments

  • Energy calculations and simulations

  • Risk analyses

  • CAPEX and OPEX cost assessments

  • Life-cycle cost (LCC) analyses

  • Design and procurement support

  • Follow-up, evaluation, and troubleshooting


During the presentation, reference projects from both CERN and the GMT telescope were highlighted. For CERN, EKA has worked on the evaluation of chillers using natural refrigerants.

Within the telescope segment, EKA presented its experience with carbon dioxide-based cooling systems for telescopes and mirror cooling applications. These projects involve demanding requirements, including high temperature precision, accurate cooling capacity control, high energy efficiency, oil-free systems, and exceptionally high operational reliability.

These projects and applications clearly demonstrate the level of technical expertise and sustainability focus that EKA brings to Big Science environments. When research facilities and advanced technical installations require both high performance and long-term sustainability, solutions must be robust, energy-efficient, and future-proof.


The Swedish Big Science Forum therefore served as an important platform for demonstrating how EKA can support facilities and projects where cooling, energy systems, and sustainable technologies are business-critical components of the overall operation.
